The only time MacKay is ruffled is when I mention his ex-girlfriend, the actress Saoirse Ronan, who recently starred in Brooklyn. They met on the set of the film How I Live Now, where he played a boy from the West Country helping her through the apocalypse.
I pronounce her name wrong and he corrects me, blushing and saying in a soft voice: “Saoirse is so brilliant and is doing amazing things.” But he is a gentleman and won’t elaborate.
